A lot of people complained that the lap dissolve slider on the 1014E was too small for the average left hand thumb, and a lot of dissolves advertised their coming by being preceeded by a small camera wobble.

Mine were the same. Dissolves were of necessity done on the run, and unless you start the scene off with your thumb set on that little slider "step", finding it with the camera to your eye was near impossible.

So what I did was this. I cut a small rectangle out of hard plastic, about 1 mm thick. This rectangle I cemented (using epoxy) to one of the little "steps" on the dissolve switch, such that the plastic protrudes from the side of the camera by about 2 mm.

That's all you need. With the camera at your eye you can now slide your fingers down the body flank until you feel this protrusion. Then a gentle click forward and the shutter starts its motor drive to close.

Only one dissadvantage, and that's when I slide the camera into its leatherette case. You have to be a bit careful not to click the dissolve switch forward, as if you do this your next scene will start immediately with a dissolve. But of course there's a lock on the shutter sector dial to prevent this, isn't there? Canon thought of everything.
